I have to admit Hootsuite is amazing and I enjoy it quite a bit. Digg, Twitter and Google alerts also see a lot of use from me…

I use and rely on Hootsuite, too. However, I only use it for channel management/publishing, but not monitoring. Given how well it has done in this poll, I suspect you are in great company!

Lately I have been using Google, Reddit, Sulia, Digg, & Hootsuite. I do find it helpful that Hootsuite blocks any reference to profiles that I have reviewed when profiling possible clients or new biz opportunities.

I think some people are confused between social media management and social/online listening. Hoote Suite is a great tool and I use it to schedule posts for twitter on occasion (not for Facebook any more as it affects your edge ranking as opposed to using Facebook’s own scheduling tool).
I am yet to find an affordable let alone free social listening tool that provides enough geographical support or strict enough perameters to make them worth while. If you do not have the need for such restrictions then for approximately $70pm Sprout Social makes for a great SM management & listening tool. It didn’t work for me personally as the brand name has too many other legitmate uses in other countries that I didn’t have the time to wade through all of the non related info.
For example if your business was Steve’s Cafe, then the results that were unrelated to your business internationally would be to plentiful and make the task to time consuming.
If there is a tool out there that can effectively listen and doesn’t break the bank (average I have found that work start at around $800pm), I’d love to hear it.
